100 Religious Leaders Announce 100 Events across U.S. for Health Reform

July 27, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. - PICO National Network is hosting a Prayer Rally for health reform on Tuesday, July 28 at 9:30am in the U.S. Capitol, Room HC 5.  The rally will kick off a national call-in day and lobby visits by 100 faith leaders and families to pass comprehensive health reform legislation this year that includes a strong Affordability Standard to protect families from crushing health care costs.

At a press conference following the rally PICO, Sojourners, Faith in Public Life and Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good will announce an aggressive in-district lobbying campaign during the August recess, including events at the offices of 100 Members of Congress, town hall meetings on health care reform and the distribution of tens of thousands health care reform guides for people of faith in targeted districts and states.

DATE:    Tuesday, July 28

TIME:    9:30-10:30am

Together we'll be delivering a NO RECESS FOR REFORM message that while members may be headed home for recess, the pressure to reform health care for our families will only increase.   People of faith are not going to let the special interests that oppose reform use a delay and kill strategy to take away our best hope of guaranteeing affordable health coverage to all families.

This weekend's Washington Post profiled the unprecedented effort by the faith community to put aside differences to support passage of health care reform legislation this year.
