ACTION ALERT: There are more of us than them

June 02, 2009

When Members of Congress return to Washington, DC today they'll be getting an earful from industries with financial interests in the health care reform legislation that Congress is writing this month.  One staffer told us she was meeting with 8-10 health care lobbyists a day!

In this "David vs. Goliath" moment, we have a secret weapon: there are more of us than them.

Call Congress TODAY about an Affordability Standard in Health Care Reform at (866) 279-5474

That's why it is so important that you and other people of faith call your Congressional offices today.  Use PICO's toll free Cover all Families hotline (866) 279-5474 so we can track the numbers of calls going into each office.

PICO encourages you to tell your Members of Congress that, as a person of faith, you're following the health care debate closely, and want to make sure that legislation makes health care affordable to all families by including a strong Affordability StandardClick here to see a sample phone script.

We've been hearing some troubling proposals that would offer very limited benefits at high costs and call it universal coverage.  That's why PICO and other faith and consumer organizations are pushing for a strong Affordability Standard.

An Affordability Standard in health care reform legislation would guarantee good quality benefits and set family contributions on an affordable sliding scale based on income.  Learn more at  www.coverallfamilies.org/affordabilitystandard.

Our shared faith traditions teach that each person's life is sacred.  Yet people in our congregations and communities - 20,000 people nationwide each year - are suffering and dying because they lack access to affordable health coverage.

Last week PICO California released a report that showed that even families with health coverage are increasingly unable to get the care they need because of cost.

PICO congregations and affiliates and our allies are holding organizing events across the United States to build support for reform that provides all families with a real choice of high-quality affordable health coverage.
